Anna Jarvis started a campaign to make mother’s day an acknowledged holiday in the United States of America in 1905 after her mother’s death. US Congress declined to accept the Mother’s day as holiday at that time. But she continued her efforts and in 1914 US Congress recognized Mother’s day a national holiday to honor mothers.
Origin of Mother’s Day :
The origin of Mother’s day was started in the 19th Century a year before the Civil War. At that time a peace activist Ann Reeves Jarvis helped “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” to teach the women that how can they care their children in good manners.
These “Mother’s Day Work Clubs” later turned into combined force in a regions of the nation still partitioned over the Civil War. In 1868, Anna Jarvis organized “Mothers’ Friendship Day,” at which mothers gathered with former union and united soldiers to support unity.
The origin of Mother’s day was also noticed when JULIA WARD HOWE wrote “Mother’s Day
Proclamation” in 1870. The agenda of writing “Mother’s Day Proclamation” is to gather the mothers and promote the world peace. Julia Ward Howe started a campaigned to make “Mother’s Peace Day” to be celebrated on June 2 every year.
